VATS Bypass Module works on GM (General Motors) VATS installed vehicles from 1989 thru 1999 and many thru 2004. Vats chips 1 thru 15.
The Vats Bypass Module #VBM054 Is designed for those times when the VATS ignition lock fails due to the wires breaking off in the steering column up near the head of the lock or the touchpads no longer provide contact where the key meets the lock. It is suited for those times when tearing down the steering column is not an option and the security of the key or car is not an issue.
What this VBM054 unit does is it redirects (bypasses) the signal that was coming from the VATS key, redirects through the Vats Bypass Module, then back to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit).
The vats bypass module has all 15 vats values built into the unit (NOTE: There are 16 switches in the VBM unit & only 15 are in use, the #16 is a dead switch and has no value or function). By using the module you create the same signal needed to tell the ECU it is ok to start the car.
