This is an additional cable used to read the PIN and CS codes by removing the instrument cluster on MQB platform VAG Group vehicles. It is used for cars with digital (virtual) instrument clusters, Johnson Controls MQB systems, and those that give an "unknown type" error when attempting to find the PIN and CS codes via the OBD port.
It's generally used for making spare keys. However, the PIN and CS codes can also be obtained for "all keys lost" situations. In all keys lost scenarios, in addition to the PIN and CS codes, you must also obtain the files read from the vehicle and then calculate the synchronization data from a service provider using those files, the PIN, and the CS codes in order to program a new key.
